The Glory of Gaga
The Glory of Gaga
Lady Gaga’s magnum opus to date is the antithesis of what she has become known for…and that’s the beauty of it. Images: Billboard/Warner Bros.
Lady Gaga is known for her extravagant outfits and at times bizarre transformations. Yet her greatest metamorphosis comes not from the donning of clothes or the slathering of makeup, but rather from the removal of all exterior adornments as she lays herself bare in her acting debut. Starring alongside Bradley Cooper in A Star is Born, Gaga presents herself in a light the world has not seen her in before; exposed and vulnerable. Stripped back, her true musical prowess is able to shine, as emotion resonates through ballads and her voice takes on a new depth.
Though Gaga’s costumes and pop career have irrefutably done remarkable things for the music industry and, more widely, acceptance within society, her latest role shows that beauty can come from the simplest of places, and talent need not be supplemented to be seen. Yet, her ability to oscillate between pop powerhouse to tender songstress is a magnificent testament to Gaga’s range. She is at the dawn of a new chapter in her career, extending her artistry beyond the limits she had had imposed upon her. And that’s the beauty of it. Life imitates art, as she teeters on the Edge of Glory.
